WSOU 89.5 FM Joins the 89th Annual Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Seton Hall students marched in the 89th annual Newark St. Patrick’s day parade on Friday March 15, just in time for the holiday Sunday March 17. Student volunteers from the modern active rock radio station in varying positions from assistant producers to on-air talent and student managers, came together to march along the route. WSOU staff of various cultural backgrounds celebrated Irish heritage and culture, greeting cheering crowds as they went. The parade, established in 1936, also featured marching bands, bagpipers, dancers and various cultural and community groups including first responders, veterans and more.
When asked about the parade, Promotions Director Bobby Steiner chuckled, saying, "It was definitely something we [WSOU] don’t usually do. But it was good time, and it was nice having staff work together." Thinking about the events of the day, Station Manager Kayla Fonseca, who organized the successful outing, was excited "that a lot of people came up to us and were Seton Hall Alumni. That speaks to the Seton Hall Community in neighboring Newark and how WSOU is important part of New Jersey’s culture."
WSOU recently celebrated its 75th anniversary and its second time being awarded with a Marconi award for Best College Radio Station in 2023, following Best Non-Commercial Station in 2016. The student run operation prides itself on being a staple in the metal community and the broader New Jersey and New York cultural sphere. It frequently participates in community events and fundraisers to give back to society.
