Students Cheer on the Pirates During the 2024 National Game Watch

On Saturday, January 27, Seton Hall hosted the 10th annual National Game Watch to cheer on the Seton Hall Men's Basketball team take on Marquette University. At almost 30 locations coast-to-coast, more than 720 alumni and friends joined in on the fun, showing their Seton Hall spirit for our Pirates. 

Student Services partnered with Athletics and Information Technology to host a Pirate Game Watch Party in the University Center. More than 89 students participated in the event, providing refreshments and raffle prizes, including a Stanley cup, snacks and Pirate-themed gifts. 

Monica Burnette, Ph.D., shared the importance of providing opportunities for student engagement, "Students continue to request activities on campus during the evening and weekend hours. Pirate Watch Parties align with Goal 3 of the University's Strategic Plan to create a premier student experience that enhances student engagement and success. By showcasing televised games from Seton Hall University Athletics in the University Center, we are meeting students where they are and providing opportunities for them to build community and strengthen Pirate Pride and traditions."

Ghana Hylton, Director of Campus Inclusion and Business Affairs, coordinated the event with senior nursing major and student manager Allen Jean Pierre. 

Ms. Hylton shared, "Engagement is an important part of campus life and is the cornerstone of Student Services. When we get to partner that intention and combine it with Seton Hall pride and support our stellar athletics team, it's a winning combination! I was proud to cheer on our team with the students and offer them an additional way to build community. We had a great time!"

Mr. Jean Pierre echoed these sentiments, "I think the most rewarding aspect of organizing the watch party was interacting with all the students who came to watch the game and participate in the raffle. There are new faces that I can recognize now! Hosting student engagement events solidifies our unity as a school and gives all of us students of different backgrounds some common ground and something to be passionate about."
